The best way to become familiar with the club is to visit us as a guest! There is no fee to attend our club meetings as a visitor. You don’t have to participate in any of the proceedings so you can observe the proceedings without any nerve racking participation 🙂 And we always have many visitors at our club meetings so you’ll be among many other first-timers also learning about our club. Each step of the meeting is explained as we go so by the end of the night you’ll have a good idea of how it all works.
You can see when our next meeting is here on our website or on Facebook. However, our meetings are generally held on the first Tuesday and third Thursday of each month. Please arrive at 18:00 for guest orientation. We welcome you to come visit us and see what it’s like. If you like what you see and would like to start participating then you can join as a member by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. We’ll take you through the process. You can visit as many times as you like until you feel comfortable to take the next step. Below we’ve added some info about what it’s like to be a member.
In the meantime, you’re welcome to continue attending meetings as a guest as long as you like but you won’t be able to make speeches or participate in any roles until you become a fully fledged member.
Some additional info about what it’s like when you become a member:
When you first start out as a Toastmaster you will receive two manuals, namely: Competent Leadership & Competent Communication.
Competent Leadership: In this manual you will find many roles, such as: Timekeeper of an event (typically a meeting), Ah-Counter, Evaluator, Toastmaster of the Evening, etc. When fulfilling any of these roles you will be evaluated by a fellow Toastmaster. Evaluation is recorded in your manual. Upon completing the necessary roles, you will be awarded a certificate.
Competent Communication: This manuals contains 10 speeches that must be completed at your own pace. Each speech focuses on a different area (Speech Organization, Body Language, etc.) and you are evaluated by a fellow Toastmaster in your manual. After completing the 10 speeches, you will be awarded a certificate and also move on to the next level of speeches! The first project in the Competent Communication manual is the “The Ice Breaker.” Please follow the link to find out more.
Table Topics are also part of every meeting. Table Topics are Impromptu Speeches that helps you think on your feet and boosts your confidence instantly!
There is a $20 joining fee (includes printed manuals) plus a $7,5 per month subscription and an additional R100 that goes to running our club (the rest goes to the international Toastmasters body). When you’re ready to join we’ll work out these amounts for you and take you through the payment process.
